I hooked up my trailer yesterday to find that the turn signals dont work nor do the brake lights . But I get running lights. I checked for power out of the plug itself and i get no power from anything but the running lights. Anybody have a problem like this before?
On my dad's 98 F-150 there was another fuse under the hood at the power distribution block for the trailer wiring package. It blew once and the trailer harness quit working. It's been a while so I don't remeber which one it is. I hope it helps.
Under the hood in one of the fuse boxes are fuses for trailer tow. Usually right and left turn signals and stop lights are fused separately. I think 10 amp fuses.
I had the same thing happen to me. I found it to be the fuses under the hood on the drivers side. Look in your manual for the locations. I think there was three but cant remember. It did solve my problem. good luck.
right and left turns for trailer are fused under the hood in the power distribution pannel. They are mini fuses either 10 or 15 amp.
(arent wireing problems a pain in the a*s?)
I belive that you will find that the charging circuit to the trailer and the power for the brakes do not work also. there is a provision in the box under the hood on the driver's side that requeires (2) relays for those funcitons. not fuses
From '99 to '01 there was the power distribution box under the hood that did have the mini fuses for the trailer turn signals/brake lights. They are 7.5 amp mini fuses in the #1 and #3 position. I have had to change these many times on those trucks.
In '02 (and maybe '03 but since we don't have an '03 I don't know) there is no power distribution box under the hood. Look at your 2002 Owner's Manual pages 162-165 for the location of all the fuses and relays. At a quick glance for any trailer related items look at positions 6, 38, 101, 115, and 305.......there could be more but those are the ones that caught my eye as I read the list.
I didn't say to look under the hood since he has an '02.
On our '99-'01 SDs I can understand looking under the hood since you will see the power distribution box in between the air box and the firewall (this pic is off an '01):
On an '02 I have an empty space there:
And here is a pic of the '01 fuse panel under the steering wheel:
DCspecial,
I bought a used 2000 F250 and it is missing the fuse cover (panel under the steering wheel) that identifies the fuse number and use. Do you have a clear picture of the cover so I can get some idea of what-is-what?

I do not have a pic of that.
If you have your 2000 Owner's Manual look at page 146....it has a diagram of the fuse panel with everything numbered and the next few pages list what size fuse and their functions.
I can take a pic of the cover tommorrow if you really want it though........let me know.
DCSpecial,
Thanks for the quick reply...no you needn't take a picture. It doesn't have a owners manual either, but I'm going to the dealer today to get one. Thanks for the help on locating the information, I can see where this forum is going to be a valueable source of information and a great aid for us shade tree mechanic "want to bes"
I had a situation like yours....hooked up the trailer and the brake and turn lights weren't working...looked under the hood no problems there. finally figured out they weren't working on the rear of the truck either. I had a blown fuse under the steering wheel panel for the brake and turn signals. once I changed it out, the trailer lights worked fine. Just another thought.
