Took the radiator out for replacement and figured I should also replace the fan clutch while I was in there. Tried to get the fan clutch off the water pump. Used the factory manual, which told me that the threads were left hand and to turn clockwise to loosen. So, I did, but to no avail and ended up rounding the nut using the "special" tool, which is only about .10 inch thick. Anyway, left the clutch in for another day, but when I got the shroud back on I (naturally) discovered the words "Right Hand Thread on Fan Clutch". So, which is it? And, what size is that nut? I measured and it seems to be either 36 mm or 1 7/16, but I don't want to risk rounding off what's left of the corners.
My '93 with a 3.0 has left hand threads on the Fan Clutch.
No special tool used that day (Sunday late!) Wrapped a towel around belts and pulley, and held on for dear life. Broke that sucker loose like "crap thru a goose". I figure I got real lucky. Can't remember what the wrench size was though.
Yep, left hand threads on the wifes Aero, definitely!!
3.0 seems to be Left Handed and 4.0 Right handed. You did not say which motor you have. 36mm Long Wrench. 58mm Short Wrench. The 2 you need. If you have an AutoZone near you they will rent you the tools free. You give a $ 35.00 deposit and get it back when you return it.
Hi Wwhen i did my there was twwo different blades one has 9 blades and 10 blades .My old one was a 9 blade and i put a 10 blade on it seem to work ok thats a 92 4.0 engine .Wwrench is 1 7/16 i made one but it did not work because there is no way to hold it from turning so the old cold chisel worked good to loosen and tighten right hand threads
