"I have been using a dedicated a/c shop now, and the reason why I took it to a dealership was because I was hoping they could reach out to Ford and get their input, but they stopped when it wasn't anything obvious and they found the new part number. I also felt that due to the lack of folks saying yes I had that happen to me when I first posted, that this may not be as common as I would have thought, and again, why the Ford network of information could be useful."
Welcome to American automobile warranty's. Another reason the foreign market is ahead of us.
I actually went to a wrecking yard and bought a line off of another truck. Been working great for about 3 weeks now. Seems like the new lines are defective. Of coarse ford say they are not but I've bought 3 and broke them all within a couple weeks. This hose I got off the wrecking yard seems to be holding up good so far.
Like I said something is being built out of spec...leme guess, they went offshore to have this part built??? SHOCKER!
Mine seems to break after I have been on the road for at least 2 plus hours. Did yours seem to break for any particular reason? I can drive all over town and not have an issue. The last two times I was heading in the same direction and it broke about the same area both times.
It seems that the new lines may be the issue, but that still doesn't say why ours broke the first time. The break has been in the same place every time, both initially and subsequently.
Talked to the dealership yesterday, and they said, it will be $400 plus to put the new line on, evacuate and recharge the system. So I asked what they found was wrong and she said a line had broken just before it went into the compressor. I said, yes I know that, as that is where the other three had broke as well. Then I asked to speak to the tech, and after two more phone calls from them the tech did call this afternoon, and he basically said he didn't know what else to do. I asked him if there was someone at Ford he could call and discuss this, and he said, well, I guess I could email the engineers....
So they have had it all week and its not until the afternoon before I need to pick it up did they decide to reach out to the engineers. Maybe when I take it home and take it to another dealership in another town and they reach out to the engineers, it will seem like this is happening to more than one guy. I was just floored at the silence when I asked this tech so what can I do to get it figured out.
Same reply I got from the dealer on 2010 f250 5.4. I put one on from the wrecking yard been working great for bout 3-4 weeks now. I was told it was my compressor building up too much head pressure when I was driving. But I didn't change it. Just quit buying hoses from the dealer. Got one from the bone yard and it's working good for now anyways.
I am giving some thought to that Ddsutton but still wandering why my hose from 2008 initially broke. I am going broke trying to trouble shoot this though, and that is with the A/C shop helping out as much as they can. Did you change out the hose yourself? By any chance did you find out what years that hose fits?
I did change it my self. It's very easy. The hose I bought came off a 2008 model. I'm gonna say an 08-2010. One thing I noticed too was when I pulled the last broken hose off my compressor there wasn't a crush washer on the end of the hose. But when I pulled it off the truck at the wrecking yard it had one. So when I did my install I put one back on it. When I got the hose from the dealer it doesn't come with one for the end that attaches to the compressor. You might see if yours has that washer on it. That also allows for a little more flex on that line. It's a tear drop washer with a seal on it and a mounting hole. I did both of those things and it seemed to work so far. When i bought my truck the hose was and condenser was gone. Had to replace both. (Dealer installed) finally figured after the 3rd break if the dealer can't fix it I guess I'm gonna have to research and figure it out my self. That's when I took to the bone yard and just looked to see what was different. Seems to be working good now and I hope it stays that way. Hope this helps.
