Water pump direction
Really dumb question...
I'm currently looking at alternate ways of running my belts in my 1982 F100 with 302 and I noticed that some people have their belts on where the water pump goes clockwise (looking at it in the front), and some have theirs going counter-clockwise.
Are there 2 different types of water pumps or do they mysteriously work both ways? (I told you... dumb question)...

Well since you figured out yourself, you probably found out about the newer engines using a single serpentine belt that drives the water pump in reverse. The older V belts turn the water pump clockwise. And there are two different types of pumps, each optimized for each direction. And the front covers have to match as well.

But they corrected that problem, realizing that problem, It would cavitate at high temps, and with pressure in the system, you would always have to bleed the system when it was hot out with the a/c running.

Never said it worked good, only that they DID use a reverse pump on a std cover.
