Water pump question

Hey guys,

I have a 1975 ford maverick 302 that i have in my rx7. The engine that i bought came with the water pump and alternator attached as well as the fan. I took the fan off since it will no longer fit and am using an electric one. The engine never came with the black pully that is supposed to be there to operate the water pump. The alternator was connected with a belt directly to the main pully.

Anyways, I was under the impression the water pump was mechanically driven inside the engine. So for extra front clearance i cut off the little **** that sticks out of the water pump that the fan goes on. Now i have no way of connecting the water pump to the main pully.

So i either need to get a new water pump as well as the black pully part from somewhere and then get a belt. Or i can just get an electronic water pump for probably less and also still gave the extra clearance in the front.

The one i am talking about is this one for 110.

What do you guys think the best thing to do is? Is this electonic water pump a good deal? Its got to be easier than trying to find the other three parts id need for less than 110.

Thanks

I'm not familiar with that particular brand but, in your situation, using an electric water pump is probably the easiest way to go.
When it comes to matching pulleys, sometimes it can be a real headache.
If you do go with the belt drive then I would suggest going to a salvage yard and getting the entire pulley set up off of a similar engine, that way everything will line up.

YOu do not want an electric water pump. All the electric water pumps I have ever seen are for use with 1/4 mile cars that are not driven on the road, they do not have the capacity for a street car.

You need to replace your factory water pump.

I would go with electric. Like the others said, pulley matching is a bear.

Oh and FWIW, the vw new Beetle has a electric water pump.
