Aerostar flywheel / starter problems??
When I try to start my '89 Aerostar, sometimes it sounds like the flywheel is not engaging. If I take some pliers and turn the flywheel a little bit, I can try to start it and the flywheel will engage and everything is good. When this problem first started, it was really intermittent and would only happen every once in a while. Now it happens every time I try to start my truck and it is getting harder and harder to find the "good spot" where the truck will actually start.. any idea if this is a flywheel problem, starter problem, or both???

When it has the problem, look at the teeth on the flywheel. Are they in good condition, or chewed up? I would bet it's the starter. The starter gear is what moves to engage the flywheel, if it isn't moving far enough it's grind time.
