done with this smog pump

my truck has been running like **** lately and I was poking around under the hood and realized my air injection rail is loose. If I rev the motor I can even watch the rail slide up and down inside the acorn bolts that screw into the head. ive replaced this once already and it still was never 100 percent. its getting deleted. so what id like to know is:

what size belt do I need when I remove the smog pump?

what have you guys been doing to plug the holes in the head? what size bolt do you use? ive heard of filling the existing acorn bolts with epoxy but I don't know if I like that idea.

ill take some pics and do a write up if nobodys done it yet. thanks!

On my 351 I think the fittings were 3/8 flare fitting.
NApa had plugs that screwed right in. I have also seen some cut the tube an inch or so above the fitting then smash it shut and fold it over.

Problem is the bolts arent even holding the tubes in place anymore. Smashing them shut would have been the first thing i did lol

Ok i think i have the bolts figured out. What size belt do i need? My truck has a/c. OR could i take apart the pump and remove the veins? So it acts like an idler?

I got the head plugged up today. I ended up using 7/16 fine thread 1 1/2 inch bolts. It worked out pretty good because the heads stick out enough that they arent blocking the valve cover if it ever has to be removed. I teflon taped the threads and put some copper rtv on the ends of the bolts. Still on the fence about gutting the smog pump or what size belt to use.

Dump the pump! Even if you gut it it will still seize up at the very time that you least need it to.

I put everything back together and found a belt that fits. Wow this truck runs so much nicer. Its quieter and just sounds so healthier. If your reading this and you have a problem with your a.i.r. system, DELETE IT! 5060815 is the dayco part number for the belt i used. I have a 92 300 with ac and i was just able to squeek it on. It was close. Another size up would probably work. Ac works fine, plenty of contact on the pulley.

Next time take a string to measure it out. It is what I have always done and it always worked out fine

I have to wonder about this belt routing method and contact area with A/C compressor and crank. Do you have any pictures of the bottom pulleys?

Im trying to do this on my 96 F150 4.9 I6, What all did you have to plug? I took off my AIR Injection Rail and I see you plug those holes and ran a shorter belt. Is there anything else you did?
