Hey Everyone a while back I came in here and ask about removeing the smog pump on my 88 F150 I6 4 speed with A/C and did not even get one reply. I did a search and did not find the help I was needing. I have removed mine and thought I would share a little info. First of the biggest problem is the smog rail on the head has to come of and the holes have to be plugged. The holes are the biggest problem since they are 14mm X 1.25 threads. You could probably order some bolts this size from a bolt company but it was over the weekend so nuff said. I found out that a Autolite plug part #5242 has the right threads and shoulder for the job. It is a chevy plug for like the 3.1 and a few buick, oldsmobile cars. It has to be a long plug to reach all the way. I found out later that a long shouldered non-fouler that you can buy at advance auto would work good to if it is weldable. What I had to do was grind the ring off of the plug right were the insulater comes out of the metal part of the spark plug then the insulater will come right out. I broke off the tab (where it fires) on the end of the plug so it would not come off in the engine. Then I ground down some an insert of some sort to put into the body of the plug flush with the top I used some small bolts but as long as it is metal it will work. They need to fit as snug as possible. I then welded the top of the piece with a mig welder to seal them off. You have to grind the hex part of the plug down where a socket will fit back onto the plugs after you weld it, no biggy though. Then your ready to screw them into the engine. Getting out the old fittings and tubing is a bear but it can be done. If you had a tap the right size it would make it a whole lot easier. On my truck I had to reroute the belt and a 84in is to short and a 85in is to long. I finally found a Gates that was 84 1/4 and it worked fine a 84 1/2 would be better and they do make both of these sizes I just could not wait that long to order the other from Advance. the rest is just a sweat and plugging but this was the two main obstacles.

Suprised you didn't get any responses, as I remember replying to several threads regarding the smog system. Maybe it was a busy week and your post got buried on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th page too quickly.
Good solution... but any decent hardware store should stock those bolts in a variety of lenth. If you have Ace hardwares by you, they're the ticket.
Checked everywhere Lowe's, Ace even one bolt company didn't carry them a 1.25 is a very fine thread and a 14 MM is an odd metric size also. Ace was the only one that came close with 14mm X 2.0 only one company I found had a tap and that was MSC Industrial supply. Its a basterd size. I'm a machinist and I have never had to make or use anything that size.
