Hello Everyone,
I am a maintenance manager for a public transportation company and I have had alot of problems with my E450 Superduty Cutaway buses. The 130 amp alternators just cant keep up when its hot outside. Ive had 6 alternators replaced in the last 2 weeks on a fleet of 24 buses. Do anyone have experience installing the second alternator? I have the second alternator and Im about to buy the parts. Im just curious what all I will need and if its possible to do?
Thanks
Joe Augustine
I kind of checked around on this and no one seemed to know if it was doable. The advice I got, basically, was just to go with a higher amperage single.
I don't know what the wiring would be to retrofit the dual and I also am ignorant of whether you would have to 'flash' the ECM or anything so that it would 'know' the 2nd alternator was installed.
