Automatic truck steps/running board

I have been looking for some retractable running boards for my 78 crew cab. No online stores offer them by application for a 78. Has anyone altered another kit and pulled this off? Pictures would be cool

Sorry no pics. But the crewcab below was displayed at the Goodguys West Coast Nationals and it had Amp Research steps installed on it. It's not a problem if you can fabricate and adapt....

'Tis!

I took some reference pics but skipped the Amp steps. I don't ever see myself shelling out that kinda dough for 'em. I like the fact that they fabbed an under-dash cover to hide all the junk that is visible due to the lift and 40-inch tires.

Yea there is a lot of time, thought and money into that rig. Looks good but if I had a crew cab I would have made it a little more streetable I think.

I don't mind shelling out the amp research $$, but with the number of kits they offer I bet one fits better than the other.

Isn't that the truth. I have only a 3" lift and I have to step up on the bumper to do anything now.

I need to go visit my brothers place and get some photos of dad's old 79. It had folding away steps. They were attached to the bottom of the door and when you opened the door they came out. it's only a angle inside the opening of the door when it's open but it's very awesome.

I can't describe it right but it was awesome for a lifted truck! I will try to get photos.

Priced out a running board motor for my 09 and lets just say it is disconnected and no longer functional.

Here's a bit of info. Been dead a while as the arrival of my daughter in early February shut this down for a long bit. I have been making tiny amounts of progress as of recently though & more pics/info will be added so as to update the thread when I make the time to upload the photos I've been taking...

Oh, and as for the motor cost on these things, I've been told they use a power window motor so they motors are easy to find & muuuuch cheaper to replace than some other automated steps. In my dealings with AMP's customer service they have been VERY helpful, so my guess is they will take the time to confirm or deny this & probably tell you what the motors came out of even so you can find replacement parts.
