My understanding is that ford makes replacement pieces in 3 sections. I am getting the whole rear section replaced and I imagine that they will cut the frame off to accommodate whatever size the rear section that ford makes.

You are absolutely correct. However once the truck goes up onto the frame machine and is properly measured, that will absolutely determine if the frame can be sectioned or if it should be replaced. As you have been told there will be a supplement estimate once the truck is tore down and the damage is completely and thoroughly inspected. If they find buckles in 2 section points you will get a new frame. I done a few frame change overs in my time as a collision technician. I have also sectioned a couple of frames as well. And if done correctly the sections make for a very nice repair. There are specific points in the frame where the frames are measured, scribed, often times marked by the manufacturer as to where to cut. Also the new section will come cut to the specific length and sleeved, so that all the technician needs to do is confirm the measurements cut the old section out bevel the edges of both the frame and the replacement section, slide together, clamp, and weld. Then since the sections are now sleeved he or she can then smooth the weld to perfection, then prime and paint. Once done you shouldn't be able to tell the section was completed.
Just like Tom mentioned earlier the lifetime warranty the shop provides with the repair is only good for as long as the original owner owns the truck. However no one warrants against rust.

I know they can do just about anything repair wise to a vehicle these days, and intellectually I know what used to be impossible is now possible, but I cringe at the thought of frame repair.
Ehhh it's not that bad. As long as it's done properly.
Oh I know, I'm just "old school" enough that I can't make myself trust it! Seen too many older trucks years ago that looked like they were in "crab" mode going down the road!

I have been assured it will be put on the frame machine and measured. We will see. My bother had a F250 years ago that looked like a crab after a repair. You could look at the side of the truck while driving directly behind him. that is what I am hoping to avoid.

I hope it comes out great, it sux it even has to be repaired.
Yeah you shouldn't have that issue. But if for some reason you do, then demand that they replace the trucks frame. That's what the warranty is for. And don't forget that the insurance company will still be liable and warrant the repair as well.
Good idea if back is ok but I thought the original problem was also low limits on the policy? Maybe not enough for the new truck, but enough for the frame replacement. Its just a shame after 10 days or even 2 months, to be put in this position. But if you are feeling good, try a deal with the claims representative might work. Of course you can expect a counter offer but say no to it.
I wouldn't care if the job was done perfect repairing frame, I would like a nice new one piece for the factory. Just an opinion. No scientific data here to say its not as good.

Injury and collision are separate claims, separate claims adjusters, separate limits. I am self employed, so I'm not sure how they will figure lost wages for their settlement offer. Funny thing is that I have not asked for anything on the injury, my neck and back are still sore a week later and I have been having muscle spasms but I guess they fear that I will hire an injury attorney and go see a chiropractor....
As uou know, and have already stated. DO NOT get in any hurry to settle at all !!! I just went through 16 months of treatment, and the legal process to get my back put back into some simelence of "better".
Ended up with an attorney. I hope that you don't have to deal with American Family, like I did !!!
I will NEVER have American Family insurance in my life !!!!!!!!

What was their first settlement offer? How much did you end up getting for lost wages, etc. Just trying to figure out what to expect.
