So I was driving my truck up the road this morning about 45mph and all the sudden I thought I heard a sort of small clunk or clang noise and now the truck has a distinct squealing noise on abrupt acceleration, initial startup, and shutdown. If you accelerate quickly and abruptly it squeals or chirps like something is catching up to the rpms of the motor. It also squeals for a split second when started in the same "catch up" aspect and also at shutdown in the opposite like the high compression motor stops before something else does so it drags to a halt. The truck runs flawlessly and has no lack of power, performance, etc. I believe it to be something external but can't say for sure. All my belts are tight and I retightened again tonight and it sounds like metal, not rubber on metal. I need some other opinions so if you guys have any similar experiences or guesses please let me know.
1983 F-250 XLT reg cab custom steel flatbed, custom steel front bumper w/ warn winch, 33" BFG all terrains, 7.3L IDI, tuned injection pump, 2.5" duals to single 4" exhaust, gauge pods, C-6 auto with shift kit. p.s... yes it was converted from a 6.9L.
Can't say I thought about that and I guess it's a pretty simple obvious way to rule things out. Any thoughts on maybe fan/fan clutch?

my experience with the fan clutch is that when it makes noise, it usually lets you know it is the fan clutch, because you will be on the side of the road hood up looking at the fan in the radiator.
So I checked again today and discovered my fan is more a less seized up. It turns very roughly about 3/4 to 1 inch each way and stops. From the stop point I can turn the whole motor over by pushing the fan and the fan never budges.
