Has anyone experienced their engine just start to chatter and it acts like it is going to loose power? This has happened to me as I was accelerating up to 60 mph on a straight away that was flat.
Did you have boost? Mine will chatter a little during regeneration, especially pulling up a hill. But the time I lost my turbo, it sounded like at least a 6.4L and of course hardly had power. Ended up being a PCM issue after a tow to the dealer.
I have compared the no-turbo sound to a 6.0L but that's a bit extreme.
When it happened the engine acted like it was shutting down due to no fuel. It only lasted for a few seconds but it has done it about three time so far. I just back off of the throttle and let it steady out and then it goes on without any other indications of a problem.

Reason: Left the "n" out of engine
That sounds like the problem that occurs at the beginning of a regen cycle. The Ford TSB requires the replacement of the valves on one side of the motor. Mine used to do it and then it went away. I'm guessing it hasn't happened in over 40,000 miles now.
I haven't taken it to the dealer because if you can't replicate it, there is no problem! The broken valve issue does concern me and hopefully I will be trading the 11 in prior to the 5/100 engine warranty running out.

Since you're concerned, laurin, it might be best to have your dealership inspect. What's your truck's model year and mileage? I'll check out some options to assist.
