I don't intend to use it for tools at all. It's for some sports equipment I need to have with me when I go to the gym and that I cannot (and don't want to) leave in the cabine where every little ******* can break a window and steal it.
Yeah, but you also need to know if you want a flat sheet metal tool box, or a diamond plate toolbox. You can probably find one at the nearest SEARS or Tractor Supply Co. Youd be surprised how many hardware stores have them for 100-129 dollars. Dont forget that weatherstripping...
Zoti, I'm looking for one as well. I don't like the industrial look; therefore I don't like either the metal (aluminum) look or the black plastic. I'd like one that is under the rail, and has the option to be color matched. If you find something, please contact me! Thanks.
I recently saw a plastic toolbox made by Delta that was injection molded with very high-density material. It was far and away more sturdy than all of the other plastic models I have seen. It carries a lifetime manufacturer's warranty against warping, sagging, and cracking of any kind. Plus, it was still $80 cheaper than aluminum.
The downside is that it only comes in a gull wing.

Sorry, I don't. I saw it at a truck accessory shop in Wichita, Kansas. The owner told me it's the only plastic box he'll carry because all the others are "flimsy crap". I have to agree with him.
It's www.deltastorage.com but I couldn't find anything on this new product there. They don't even have a product catalog available there.
I would suggest going to a local truck accessory shop and asking to see their catalog. Remember, the box I am talking about is "injection-molded". The flimsy ones are all "blow-molded". You can tell the difference by just touching them.
You might have to check a few places. I went to a different shop and asked about it and was told he'd never heard of it. It must be a relatively new product. (which is probably why it's not mentioned on the Delta site)
I recall seeing some 93 or so Rangers that had metal boxes mounted behind the cab on the bed sides. They were used along a pipeline on dirt roads. The beds had cracks 3 to 4" long near the corners. I decided that I would not go that route.
I've managed to find this box which I like because it sits in the bed and not on the sides of it. Plus it has one lid and not a gull wing design. It's pricey thought at around $250 on the net.
Just be sure to check on where you are drilling the holes in the bed. You don't want to hit anything, such as a fuel line!
Personally, I prefer the across-the-rail design because no drilling is required and you still have a little clearance to slide long items underneath the box.
