using late model mustang rims on a 68 f100

Hello.....just hoping to get some information. Wanting to go to a 16 / 17 inch wheel on my 68. Blows my mind that there's not many choices for the truck. I did see some pictures online were folks had late model mustang rims on their truck.......how are they doing that? Changing hubs/axles or what. Any info appreciated

Most cases, they are likely running a 2003-2011 Crown Victoria front suspension and either a '95-2001 Explorer rear end or an IRS rear end from a Lincoln Mk VIII or from an '89-'97 Thunderbird Super Coupe.

If it's possible to machine Dentside 5 lug rotors from the 5 on 5.5" lug pattern to a 5 on 4.5" pattern and have the center hub O.D. turned down, then you could install a plethora of stock or aftermarket wheels with the 5 on 4.5" lug pattern.

If you could locate an '80-'83 Ford F-100 9-inch rear end, it would have the needed 5 on 4.5" lug pattern. You could keep the drums on the rear or, you could convert it over to 11-5/8" Cobra rear disc brakes with these adapter brackets.

Brackets only (Ford early style 9-inch large axle bearing housing).

Rocket Racing Wheels offers these in 5x5.5 (chrome or grey).

After all is said and done, the cost will be about the same. The equation goes something like: Rocket Wheels+Tires+Mounting & balancing = CV Swap+Rear axle+Fabrication+Time+Hassle. What's it worth to ya?

I bought some adapters from Roadkill Customs and adapted them from 5X5.5 to 5X4.5 and bought a wheel and tire package from American Muscle for a mustang and they are an 18". Love the 18's and they look great and have tons of selection.

Wheel Adapters (Pair): 5 X 5.50 to 5 X 4.50
