I just wiped out an "old" issue of.....motor trend..i think i have to double check. But anyways doesn't matter, i was reading up on the New 2004 F-150, and noticed and was in comlplete awe to see.....single range 4wd!!!
Whats this all about???? Does it mean there is no low range offered on the new transfer cases or is this a misprint or something or what??
I sure hope that this is a mistake.....i use 4wd LOW more than i use 2wd HIGH!!! I need it for plowing through heavy clay muds and pulling large loads on my farm. I cannot see buying a vehicle without Low range four wheel drive, and if the new F-150 does not come with Low range, i have trouble seeing me purchase one of these trucks......
I haven't heard anything about Ford ditching their current transfer case, but if this is true it would be a BAD thing for Ford. Maybe someone else has some more information....
They will continue to offer 4 low, in Ken's article he talked about how when you use low range the drive by wire throttle helps control downhill decents. Ford wants their truck to be a capable truck and to not offer low range would break them.
Ford's drive by wire in low 4x4 was incredible, just as good for off-road as the 6.0L diesel's transmission tow mode is for downhill towing and braking.
