Front (forward) shock stud broke off

As always, it's always the last one (of anything) that give you trouble. I was changing shocks (all six) on my '96 Bronco and the nut on the end of the stud for the forward shock busted right off. Does anyone out there know of an "easy" fix rather that pulling the whole front end apart (The front forward shock mounts to the top and bottom of the radius arm) The stud that locates the lower shock eye appears to be welded to the shock bracket. I can't be the only one to ever have broke one of these, but I couldn't find a reference to a repair method in this forum. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I had the same problem on my explorer '92 I drilled the original stud off and replaced it with a similar size grade 5 bolt I then welded the new stud to the radius arm looks good and works well about 1/2 hour work

Front (forward) shock stud broke off

Thanks - what I finally did was find a "universal" shock stud at an auto parts store, spent a couple of hours grinding the old one off with a die grinder, drilled a hole and enlarged it to the stud diameter with a Dremel tool, then bolted it up with a lot of thread locker. I only did that a couple of days ago so I don't have a long term status on whether it will hold up. Plan "B" is to weld it to the shock mount if it comes loose. Thanks again

I think I still have some shock studs left over from my Rancho shock kits I did not use on my F-100 because they were too small. If you e-mail me the dimensions needed, I would be happy to go through my parts box and let you have them for the cost of mailing.

rebocardo - thanks - now that I've got a "fix" I think I'll leave it as is. By the end of the summer I should know whether it will hold up, of if the stud needs to be welded to the bracket, or I'll have to bite the bullet and replace the whole darn shock mount. Thanks again.

You are welcome. BTW: I have replaced them before on other Fords with grade 8 bolts (grade five is fine too) and never had problems.
