X2 in the pics request. I am also not far from attempting to rebuild mine. Bought it used, was fine for about 300 miles , then started slipping in OD. I talked to the guys at Baumann a couple of weeks ago, they gave me some good advice. I'll try to find my notes and post them....
Started to make a little progress with the AOD rebuild. I was tired of the truck being down so a found a used AOD that was in good shape and put it in. The truck is now up and running so I have plenty of time to spend on the rebuild. When I started to take the AOD apart the pan was full of band material and the oil was discolored. It was easy to determine that things were getting to hot. To remedy some of the heat I installed a B&M transmission cooler, in series and after the cooler in the Superior radiator.
We have the old transmission apart, the overdrive band was toast but no other apparent failures. I was suprised how easy it was to get the transmission apart, no special tools required except some snap ring pliers and a small slide hammer to pull the pump. Some pictures to follow this afternoon.
Not to this most interesting thread but isn't this a result of a mis adjusted TV cable? Perhaps a tranny expert will weigh in.
I don't think so, TV pressures were right on the money. I believe the problem was a high stall converter which builds lot of heat and not enough cooler.
