cudos man...190K miles and the only problem is a tick.
It is the only thing on the engine, other than the afore mentioned coil boots and the #3 coil. I have replaced plugs and the serpentine belt, but only as maintenance, not repairs.
On the truck as a whole, I have replaced the ball joints and front hubs, one tie-rod end, the ESOF solenoid, and a damaged trailer plug and the wiring harness to it, but that has pretty much been it for repairs.
I was a Ford guy before this truck, but I think if I get cut my hands now, I would probably bleed Ford Blue!

I'll bump this thread up to tell you all I have found the problem. It was the header gasket on the right side. I was able to narrow it down a bit with the stethoscope one day while under the truck checking my filter an drain plug after an oil change. I was only getting the tick on the right side of the Y pipe, not the left. That led me to the exhaust on that side.
I had previously checked all the header bolts I could get to without removing the inner fenders. They were all tight. The two that were loose were the bottom bolts on #3 and #4 cylinders which I didn't get check before because the rest were fine!
I did replace all the lash adjusters. When I removed the valve covers, I could see that some were shooting oil against the bottom of the valve cover while others were not. I assumed whatever modulates the oil in some of the lash adjusters may have been wearing out, and I didn't want problems on the right front from insufficient oil pressure/flow.
Banks sent out a new gasket under warranty. I was very pleased about that! It is installed, but not yet torqued, as I didnt' have the spec. with me.
Thanks to everybody who offered suggestions. I still do not understand the way that tick traveled inside that engine!

Maybe it's kind of like a leaking roof. Sometimes the water will follow a rafter and show itself inside the structure in places that don't seem possible in relation to where the leak really starts.
Thanks for the post. I've got a 2001 F450 bucket truck with a V10 so I was interested in following it up just in case I ever have an issue someday. Currently has approximately 155k on it. The manifold studs & gaskets had been replaced by the dealer I bought it from. So far, so good but I only put 3k or less per year on the truck.

I use Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I always put in additives with the oil hot and the engine running. The tick would change just about the time the stabilizer should have made it to the oil gallery. That really threw me off! I will know today if there is another tick somewhere, but lots of quality time with my stethoscope hasn't indicated one.
The company I retired from has a F 550 bucket truck with the 6.0L diesel. At 3K/yr. you made the right choice with the V10.

My previous bucket truck was a 1997 with 7.3. Lower mileage and a good running truck, but I didn't really need the higher upkeep costs of the diesel with my limited mileage. Even with an upgraded intake and a 4 position DP Tuner chip it was gutless compared to the V10. And the newer truck has A/C plus a big old splicer box on the back. The old one was a flatbed and no A/C.
