All parts places just have the gray one. Every thing says replace black with black. Need a part number for correct one. So are the gray ones the new replacements for the black ones? Will the wrong one goof something up? Or just not work?
These trucks are pretty much just money pits.
Thanks for all.
I have an Oriellys 2-7050 from Master pro ignition, its gray and they say it is correct.
What do you think?
It is not the correct one. Many parts manuals, including Ford, are wrong. You need a black ICM. Tell them you need an ICM for a 1994/95 Mustang GT w/5.0L engine.
I agree! Just went to napa they did not have the TP33 one at store that their book says is the correct one for a 1996 F250 with a 460, and is listed as grey on that website.
They did have TP29 that was black but said is for the smaller engines. I would think smaller engine or not the modules would all be the same either gray or black. Why are those parts places so messed up? Will the gray even work? Probably why my black one was tested and failed everything, they checked it per book and likely that is for the gray one????
Update my all fail module is working. It was the pip sensor (distributor).
Just wonder if the gray module goofed anything up? And what the wrong test did to my black one?
This is wrong information and is the gray module and will NOT work right in in some of the above trucks. This one is for the 1989-1993 460 & the all other 1993 and older remote mounted trucks.
This information is why all of the auto part stores and some of the Ford dealers are selling the wrong part.
A few of the Ford dealers know this and will sell you the right part but not all.

No it will not hurt anything but will set a code for a missing IDM signal. If you run the gray one you will also not have as much power and your MPG will be lower.
The Gray and black ICM's plug into a different wiring set up so I do not know if testing a black one as a gray one will mess it up but do not think so.
The differences are that the gray one has a START input and the black one does not. Also the Black one has a IDM out put and the gray one does not.
I think its the store manager actually knew about the black and gray deal.
He found the correct one, so a handful of parts guys know it. So Riellys black one is BWD CBE40, BWD is the manufacture and the part is made in USA. This number matches the one on the list above.
Gosh why do the parts places make it such a headache? They look at you like your stupid, this is what the computer says its supposed to have, end of story.

The problem is that the Ford dealers look up is wrong for the 1994-1997 Ford trucks and all of the part places have copied the wrong information.

I go through a similar experience every time I need engine parts for my 1990 642b Bobcat. I tell them it's a 1979 Dodge Colt

Info taken from 1990/2001 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog, April 2001 edition on microfiche.
I would assume that by now (4/2001), the info would be correct?
One would think that Ford would correct this information. I do not know why they have not but it does cause a lot of confusion for the owners of the 1994-1997 trucks.
All of these trucks had the right one on them from the factory but the parts counters all have it wrong.
