I have a 300 inline six, also known as a 4.9. I have found a ZF trans that has the bell housing for a 4.6 or 5.4, or v-10 triton.
I thought that the small block bells would all fit my block, but I'm not sure about the Triton. Is that different? Different starter mount?
Thanks.
(I now have a super tricked out C6, but really want that cruise/freeway gear. I found a nice T85N Borg/warner overdrive trans, but the age of the thing, and obsolete parts, put me off.)
Modular engines have a very different bellhousing than the older small block stuff. You need to pass on this unless there might be an adapter or something to get it on there I'm unaware of.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case. At the risk of sounding ignorant, what does it mean when you say 'modular?'
Modular engines are the new 4.6, 5.4, v10. It just refers to fords idea that any engine foundry could be changed quickly and easily to produce any one of these engines with minimum downtime.
Basically, another name for Triton (pickup name for same engine) and Intech (Lincoln/Mercury) name for them.
Hi Kevin, check out this website: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market It lists several good used ZF transmissions at yards in the Sacramento area.
Sam
Hello, Sam: Thx for the help. I've been searching CL and Epay to no avail. I see there are several ZF's in my area on that site.
Thanks, guys, for the help. I am in S.Cal. Yes, I understand to find one from a 351. Can any one tell me how to identify a 351 on sight in the yards?
Another question: My drive shaft (oem) has the slip joint connection to a C6. When I replace it with the ZF, can I run the drive shaft from yoke to yoke, or u-joint to u-joint?
Sorry, but it's been a while since I was able to browse the forum for long b/c I was publishing an ebook on the Quadrajet.
The newer fuel injected 351's all have "Ford 5.8 EFI" cast into the top of the massive intake plenum in great big letters, real easy to spot.
As far the driveshaft goes, does your's have the two piece shaft with a carrier bearing? If you do then you'll be just fine without the slip yoke at the trans since you'll still have the one at the carrier bearing. If for some reason you have a one piece shaft you'll have to have a new one made that has the slip yoke built into it.
