Do ya have to remove the valve bodies to get the front pump off….I downloaded the ATS manual..and the order of disassembly states this….but I would like to start with the pump and change the bushing and seal…..my seal looks like someone pounded it in with a drift punch….and the torque converter hub has been strapped to remove some wear as well….I have searched threads till my eyes bled…
so the saga continues….I have just about zero budget, so please understand I will not be a btw candidate anytime soon, although nothing would be finer than a scrap and slap at this point….so I will try and post some pics, but meantime I have decided to do some investigative teardown….I have the trans out and it looks like someone beat the pump seal in with a drift punch….the hub on the converter has been strapped with emery cloth…..so I decided to remove pump and disassemble…..the bushing is still in tack but looks to be chunks in the oil groove….but what the question is ….while looking at the transgo pump upgrade info, it shows drilling out the hole in the orfice plug larger…it seems to be missing the plug altogether, even though you can see a stake mark where one used to be…is this normal or not good??
That orfice should be in there, sounds like whoever built this trans was in a real hurry or just didn't care or was clueless, did you look into a ford crate trans. they offer them rebuilt with a 36,000 3 year warranty and for around 1,500 bucks, comes complete pan, converter, dipstick not a bad deal. or go for a BDS of other and upgrade the weak link

Thank you for your reply!!! Yes I have been scouring this site and as many tranny parts sites as possible in the past week…..it's a bit overwhelming….the very least I can expect to pay to rebuild myself with tc included is about 1450 for a good kit with a strong tc, so, I am weighing it all out…..plus as you know, you happen to be in a good position for all the other important repairs ….up pipes, turbo pedestal, larger exhaust….the list….DAMN
Yes sir, It's the time to do it, How are the funds? thats whats going to be the factor as to what gets done and what needs to be done. I used a Banks Billet converter that alone was $600 bucks insane, but if you have time do it once and do it right. Keep me posted

I am gonna sell some extra sleds and things, so I am going at it slowly….I'd hate to get a loan for it all….after all, that's why we turn the wrenches, or is it fun?
I am just wondering if that missing plug in the pump housing was contributing to my overwhelming fluid loss….besides the seal?
99.5-up use a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) torque converter lock up and E4OD and E99's have the non-PMW (On-Off) lock up. The pumps are different and do not have the converter release orifice plug on the PMW versions. There is a TransGo kit to convert the PMW to Non-PWM, if desired. I did this on mine.

Forgive me for jumping in here but I am having tranny problems of my own and I see an option here. I had a reman tranny installed and it has been acting up in OD. Slipping, not locking and/or downshifting. My truck is an E99, what would the wrong (non-PMW) tranny do if it was installed in my truck?

I don't know any specifics on that, but the pump Converter Clutch Control Valves and Torque Converter Clutch Solenoids are different. This would affect the torque converter clutch application without the appropriate PCM shift strategies for the type you have.
