My '14 350 is dimming the light on the dash during a bright sunny day when I put the light switch on Auto.......does anyone know where the sensor is for the auto lighting? I'm thinking I might have something covering it to turn the nighttime lights on during the day......It has worked since new til yesterday.......Thanx!
Can't say for sure on the '14s but on my '13 F-350 the sensor is a four sided pyramid looking thingy in the center of the dash, about an inch from the bottom of the windshield.
Mine is also a bit oversensitive, IMHO. It will often go into night mode on a very cloudy day or when I'm under a heavy tree canopy for more then a few seconds. I've often wondered if that's something the dealer and adjust, but it never bothered me enough to look into it.
Dash lights got a lot more complicated since they started running them both day and night and also making the dimmer switch goofy and looping in the dome lights. You can really chase your tail with these things.
Mine seems to be different every day and I gave up trying to be in control of it. I'm inclined to think that there's more to it than that sensor in the middle of the dash, somehow.
That drives me nuts too! So I experimented, I took my little flashlight turned it on and put it right in front of the sensor, now the instrument lights are bright all the time, the way I like it. Instead of using my flashlight all the time I am trying a couple of different options with LED's and a watch battery, something small that I can take off the dash when parked.
