Another entry on my observations of regen on my 2015. This one was during towing our camper home from the Hershey RV show today.
When we left the campground the soot level was 2.41. It increased to 2.54 during the first 20 miles or so and then began reducing via passive regen until the soot level reached 1.54, then it went into active regen. That lasted about 24 miles and reduced the soot levels to 0.74. The soot level did not continue to drop any further after the active regen stopped but I was pulling a grade when it stopped.
So this active regen was somewhat different than the one I observed before while not towing. This time active regen started while passive regen was dropping the soot level. It was 424 miles since the last active regen.

There are definitely some changes with the regen process on the 2015's. My 2012 would always start at 2.67 and never varied. Either something other than soot level alone or a combination of things like DPF soot mass or DPF pressure initiates the process. Regardless, more miles between regens is what we want.
I'm posting these regen observations from my 2015 to share what I'm seeing versus what others may have seen on the 2011-2014's. At this point I'm inclined to believe there may be a different regen strategy based on what I've read historically versus what I'm seeing. Too early to tell for sure though.
But I've seen empty, non-towing soot levels into the 3's before active regen is initiated. Now I've seen effective passive regen overridden at relatively low soot levels. Overall, towing to non-towing I'm seeing active regen's around 400-500 miles regardless of soot levels.
