Piggybacking fuses

1978 F250

Newb question:

PO had used a modern blade fuse to replace a blown glass fuse by just sticking it in beside the blown fuse, which was left in place. Nice ingenuity, but is it safe? Same rated fuse, and because glass one is blown still just one fuse on the circuit.

I would say it's safe, but not very reliable. I would go ahead and replace the glass fuse. Get some spares while you are at it. Part of owning a old car or truck, carrying stuff for it that is starting to be hard to get.

Yeah, I will. They use several different length fuses, I need to just pull and measure (and match amperage). Gonna have to print a picture of the fuse block - the lettering is going on mine. Thanks for the reply.

A blade fuse pushed in next to a glass fuse won't make as good contact in the rounded contacts designed for the glass fuse. This will create more volt drop and probably heat. That said, for most circuits it's probably not a big deal if the rest of the circuit is in good shape.
