Headlight issue...

Tried posting about this before and got no replies, I'll try it again!

After redoing my electrical in the engine at because it was absolutely horrible, previous owners just rigged it up very poorly.

I can't get the headlights to work right.
Passenger side-only high beam works, low beam nothing, and turn spinal doesn't work.

Drivers side-high beam and low beam don't work, turn signal does.

Other than that all the rest of the electrical works.

Anybody have any idea where to start?

Thanks

1st I'd check the bulbs to make sure they are good. Also check the grounds at the lights to be connected and clean.

.. then start troubleshooting the wires to determine what signal is present during certain settings. If there is voltage present when there is supposed to be none, then the problem lies upstream of that component. Also verify that the wires and terminals were not switched or spliced incorrectly.

Basic troubleshooting through deductive reasoning.

Okay cool sounds good. I know the bulbs are good but I did buy extras to test that theory.

How can I check for constant voltage? I do have a multimeter but I'm not sure where I would put the wires to check?

As for my grounds should I scratch off the paint where there at?

Yes, that could be your problem right there. Paint is an insulator.

the connection where the wire is screwed to the metal should be bare of paint and rust.

One learn how to use your test meter.
Then place on DC voltage Place the red lead on the +side of Battery & other to any ground the meter shows Voltage Right! Do the same with each hot wire going to the light. Remove The light plug and test each wire all while using the high & low beam switch.. You floor high & low beam switch may be bad..
