I will add this. With that truck having that much sentimental value to you, your mother, and your grandmother. If you do let it go not only will your heart be broken, but so will theirs. And you will always regret that decision. But with that said, I'm curious though. Why is your brother so insistent on selling the truck? And why did he do so much damage to the truck?
my brother doesn't see it the way i do i guess, he drove it for a little while when he didn't have a vehicle and he just beat it up. drinking and driving, taking it offroad and places it shouldn't have gone. he's somewhat of a wild soul and didn't seem to care much about it.
i thank everyone for the input, and i appreciate the thankfulness for service, wish i could have done more. but my time is done. and i like the idea of a loner truck or a parts truck, i live in a very rural part of nortwest indiana and we have an awful lot of scrapyards and what not. also i have been looking around online and there is a few similar trucks that i could just switch things over so i think im going to have to go for it on this one. time is not an issue im not worried about getting it done right away or in any hurry, i just don't want it to go to waste. im going to have to look more in depth to what all exactly is wrong with it and as soon as i get home i will be sure to take a lot of pictures. this will be my first project of this magnitude so i will probably be on here an awful lot haha.
The only piece of advice that I can give you at this point in time would be about the old v belts on your motor. They are probly old and cracked by now so get your brother to give you a hand taking them off. Once thier off use them to warm up your brothers butt. It may smarten him up and it should relieve you of a lot of stress. Good thing he parked it behind the barn. Glad you made it back.

If my brother did that, I'd use the tire iron, not the belts.
I've taken some pretty horrible trucks and made them nice again. If you really want THIS truck, go ahead and build it. I had a '64 Chevelle in high school. I loved that car, but had to sell it. I decided to build one just like it. So I did. Same running gear, same color, same options, same detailing. It was an identical twin to the first one. ......I wound up trading it off. No matter how much it looked and felt like the first one, I knew it wasn't. The love just wasn't there for that car.
I am sentimental..so I say buy a parts truck of the list. A 1k truck may be worth $2500 in parts. Radiator, radiator support/frame, transmission, straight panels etc....
