Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed people commenting on their cooling fans not engaging unless under extreme conditions. On my 2011 drw cc fx4 I've been watching mine and every time the truck is started the fan is automatically engaged. Doesn't matter the outside temp or the length of time the motor has been off. This morning the sun was up for only about a half hour and the truck had been sitting for about 26 hours. The outside temp was upper 70's and the fan was engaged. I've noticed this every time I start the truck key or remote start. About 3k miles ago had the hose form the turbo to the charged air cooler replaced and dealer said everything was good except for the two batteries. Should I take it back to have them look at it again? Thanks for any input and advice.
Are you sure the fan is engaged? And not just free-wheel spinning with the engine? All fans will spin with the engine, as there's always some drag on the clutch. Also, the fan will engage whenever the air conditioning system is being used. Have you checked to ensure that your A/C is off? This is part of the cooling strategy to keep the condensor cool and increase the effectiveness of the A/C.
I noticed on my 11, the fan sounds to be engaged upon startup of a morning and will stay engaged till I reach about 1500 rpm then it switches to free wheeling. My 08 did the same thing after I had the fan clutch replaced.
I knew there was more to the puzzle. My ac stays on all the time and I don't think it's free spinning either. It's blowing hard enough to move the grass in the cracks of the driveway. Thanks for the info.
