All right folks - I've been plugging away at the EOG, but now it's starting to grow beyond my capabilities. In order to have a proper working copy, I'm going to need volunteers to help assemble the information. I will give the respective authors full credit for their work - the only stipulation I have is that you allow me to edit here and there - mostly just for consistency in spelling, format, grammar, etc. Here's some of the things I'll need help with - go ahead and post a response in this thread if you'd like to work on a topic. I will edit your post and add in a "Ok, it's yours", so we don't end up with 27 different articles dealing with the IAC.
IAC Valve - symptoms, replacement, etc.
Head gasket oil leak
Spark plug replacement (anybody feel like writing a novel ?)
Tranny fluid change + how to drain the torque converter
And anything else you feel would be beneficial.
I've already taken care of intake upgrades, exhaust upgrades, my heater hose fix for noisy intakes, resetting the cpu after mods are done and I'm working on shift kits.
If you'd like to contribute an article, email me at my username + @comcast.net (trying to avoid giving my email address to the spambots). I'll let you know if anybody's already claimed your topic or not.
So far, Rich (Rtpjunior) has cranked out 2 very polished and professional articles dealing with the 4WD switch malfunction and the PCV valve problems.
I've also decided that I'm going to convert the whole thing to Adobe PDF format when it's done, to keep insurgents (troublemakers from other sites, Amsoil dealers, Al Quaeda members, etc) from editing or messing around with it (Imagine our surprise when an article extolling the virtues of Amsoil suddenly appears in the middle of the EOG?)
I don't know about user rights, but I'm sure that we could either contact these guys or simply add their addresses to the "manual" since they are being offered in the internet for free viewing.

Granted, that's a very helpful presentation of covering the plugs, but I'm planning something that will make the plug job so easy, we'll put the dealerships out of business.
Thanks for the link, though - that guy has some good ideas, but I'm looking for a play-by-play on replacing the plugs so that any ordinary person can just follow the directions - like a cookbook.
this is going to be a great help and sounds like loaded with some great info. i wish i had something to contribute, but i haven't done anything on my wifes 97 exp. she bought it about 7 months ago with 82k on it, now has 100k and haven't had to do much, the dealer changed the plugs/wires and fluids for our trip a few weeks ago, anyway, looking forward to the document when it is done
Hey Matt, don't forget that some of the articles will need to be written for both the 5.4 and the 4.6 due to these engines having some different set-ups. As an example- coil packs, your heater hose fix etc.
Hey BigMatt how about a page that breaks down each year and the five most common problems that seem like a plauge to these trucks these years, oh and by the way when it's done how do we get to see it, will it be posted for download or will you post it on a site of it's own?

We've sort of got that going on now, but thanks for the suggestion!
As far as publishing, I haven't thought that far ahead. I'm thinking about asking Ken to upload to the "Tech Articles" section. Additionally, I'll post a link in my signature, so I can just say "Click the link below" whenever somebody asks an EOG question.
I am a recent owner of a 98 4X4 Expedition (which I really like), and check in almost daily on this thread. I am not pushing, and of course am very appreciative of the time and effort being put into the EOG, and was just cuious as to how it is coming, and if there is an ETA?
I have already learned many things lurking around on this forum, and will be more than willing to help out others when I can.
