Okay guys I've been tired of my trucks harsh ride I know it's a 3/4 ton but still shouldn't be this ruff though and I like the ttb and realy don't want a d60 now I've considered a rsk but I was thinking a four link with obs 2wd front coils sound plausable or not thanks for input
Why re-engineer a new type of suspension when the D60 is a straight bolt in?
If you like how the TTB rides (many, many people do) replace all the pivot bushings with polyurethane and keep motoring on. The harshness is likely because your springs have sagged and they are hitting the bump stops. Replace the springs and the bushings.
When I first bought my truck I was convinced I could make it better too. A few years pass and I just did the D60 swap.
okay thanks for the info ive checked into replacing the bushings but im just wanting something more custom and ive seen some people have even been converting to 05 up suspension but cant afoard that any input from people that have done a four link susspension would be grate
If you search for "4 link", I posted a link a while ago to a Pirate 4x4 thread where a guy did it on his f350... If I can find it again I'll link it..
Ok, here u go.. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/ford/...nt-4-link.html
Ive built many but for crawlers. The 4-link you want would be the parallel 4-link which is like the newer trucks. It has a track bar associated with it. It has to fllow the drag link as close as possible, as far as geometry, to prevent bump steer. Can you fab/weld? brackets and links will have to be built and welded to both the axle and frame. Also, making links with the joints they use in these buggies, which I highly suggest if you go this rout, are expensive. That being said, A link suspension has never been known to be cheap
a 4 link with a track bar is totally unnecessary on a TTB IMO. The most you needs is a good set of radius arms similar to the extended radius arms we run on D44 TTBs and some good heavy duty coils. Some 2wd coils with leveling kit spacers probably would be alright. The tough part would be modding some radius arms to fit the D50 and putting the coil pad on the D50. I've always wanted to coil spring a D50 TTB, just never had a reason to do it. Whoever had the bright idea to leaf spring a TTB went full retard.. A TTB has a hard enough time flexing with coil springs. The last thing it needs is some negative arched leaf springs to help it out. LOL
You could go beyond the regular coils and do cut/turned beams and coilovers, but that's kind of an expensive option.
I 'm also considering just puting radius arms on it with coils if I can't come up with the $ for the links and everything but was wanting something custom but if I just put radius arms I was thinking just use stock 2wd arms with modified ends to mount to the d50 ttb and all stock 2wd brakets and I do have decent fab skills and welding skills have built a few small trailers and have access to a good mig and shop so any input on radius arms also helps
I agree with Travis. The leaf sprung D50 TTB was the worst idea Ford ever had. I think coils would be nice on a D50. I would think you should be able to find a 2wd F250 or F350 in a junk yard to get the radius arms and brackets from. Get the spring buckets too. Look at how an F150 is set up and fab some spring pads like those but a little heavier duty. Should work good. I have a buddies F250 4x4 in my shop right now doing e-fuel on it and he wants a D60 so bad he can't stand it! I may run this by him and see if he wants to play

Let me know if you want some pics of my D44 setup. I'll dig through the laptop and see if I have any pics from when I was putting it together. Not a terribly complicated design. I do think I would build extended radius arms for it though. It helped my D44 flex quite a bit. The next step to get more flex from mine was going to be cut and turned beams and get rid of the drop brackets on the pivots. Then get rid of the pivot bushings for some big hiem joints and go to some coilovers. I'll never get around to doing all that stuff because of the cost, but I did consider it at one time.
Here's a couple pics of mine that I had from when I rebuilt my D44. Should at least give you an idea. Pay no attention to those shocks. I swapped those out with Bilsteins. You can see in the pics that the spring perches just bolt on the TTB arm using a stud which also acts as the top radius arm bolt. Put the spring perch on bolt them down using the studs, then the springs install and the hold downs hold the springs to the perches with a nut on the studs. Easy as pie. Shouldn't be too hard to just go grab these parts from a D44 TTB and make it all work on a D50.
Okay guys thanks for all the help I desided I'm going to do extended radius arms I got lucky and got a set of 96 f350 2wd front powerstroke coils to use and I have to get all the parts of my my 95 f150 2wd truck but I'm going to half to wait a little while because I spent my money I was saving to do it on tires a guy I know bought a cummins truck from my nagibor and he had just put new tires on it a few months back and he never hardly drove it he put new wheels and tires on it and sold me the 85% tires for 100 bucks I know they were over a thousand new the guys not bright
