I've got my pump wired in with a oil pressure shut of switch and relay. My issue is with the "I" terminal on the switch says it needs to go to a ignition source so I wired it into my ignition modules red wire and the pump works fine and everything works fine but I have recently read that this may hurt the truck and that my ignition source should actually be wired into the ignition switch so now My question is where does my wire go on the ignition switch at?
The only way I see this hurting your ignition system is by overloading it.. you should consider wiring in a 5 wire relay so the ignition voltage is used to switch the relay on so it flows a better more direct current from the battery.
When you say the 'I' terminal of "the switch," does "the switch" refer to the Hobbs-style oil pressure cutoff switch? Did you use the same switch as me?
What specifically is your concern - overloading the wire? If the 'P' terminal of your Hobbs switch runs straight to the pump, then yes, you'll burn up the harness. If you instead run the 'P' terminal of the switch to the coil of a relay like I did (along the lines of Jdeshler's suggestion), then there's no concern because relay coils draw very little current. That's the whole point of a relay (use a low-current circuit to switch a high-current load).
