Anyone with a new '03 EB Expy experiencing intermittent problems with their speedometer? I've had 4 or 5 occurrences where the needle is slow to start. Sometimes comes up in a few seconds, the last few have been a few minutes (at highway speed, 20k or more RPM). Problem seems to be getting worse and occurring more often......especially in hot temps. Just came back from a 2,000 mi trip to Myrtle Beach and had the problem 3 times there. Temps in the 90's.
Any thoughts on what I might tell the service tech on Tuesday to look at in the speedo during my next visit Tuesday to get the TSB done on the "growl" in the front end?
Since no one's replied to this, I'm assuming I'm on my own with this particular issue? Anyone else out there with a temperamental speedo needle?

There have been a few problems over the years since '97 with a wire in the shift stalk shorting out. It starts out intermittedly and gets worse until it blows the fuse. (under dash, driver's side on '97) This cuts out all the dash instruments, speedo, tach, etc. and at least in the '97 also cuts out the OD shift relay. Watch to see what your other gauges do when it misbehaves. Notice if it happens while you are shifting.
Hope this helps. That will help you or your mechanic trace it down.
i have an 03 eddie bauer. how do i know if there are any tsb for the truck that need to get fixed? do i get notified by ford?? and what is a tsb anyway
Welcome and you're in the same boat I was about 2 or 3 months ago. This forum has educated me TREMENDOUSLY. There are some great people here, including Ford Service Techs, who have already experienced many of our issues with the '03 Expy.
TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin and it's a "heads up" from Ford to it's service techs on repairs for common problems. The one I referenced happened to be for a "groan" or grinding noise in the front end. There's also one for the remote mirrors that I have had done.
Best bet is to search on the Forum for any problem you may have. It's likely you'll find something and if there's a TSB for it, you can print it and take it to your dealer. Hopefully they'll listen to you and do the repair rather than waiting for their own tech to diagnose the problem (maybe). You can also search for TSB, but I don't know what that will produce.
Good luck and enjoy the truck! I love mine so far. 11k miles.
I have no idea other than looking at the problems listed on the board. Only the most common (so far the "crazy mirrors" and front-end grinding is all that I've experienced and needed help with).
I know there used to be a site where you could find these, but Ford made them stop because there's some sight that will sell the information to you. Can't recall where it is.
You might post a new thread asking if anyone knows if there's a list of the TSB's. There are some pretty bright, knowledgeable people on the board.
