Just got a small block ZF- out of a running truck- no issues, with floor plate.
Got it for a whopping $350!

Now yesterday I find a 85 lariat cab in CT.... No rust, original paint on the floor boards. solid cab corners. not a rip in the carpet! I can have the complete AC equipped Cab, Complete Tilit/cruise column, all engine brackets/pullys, condenser, compressor, belts, hoses... the complete AC and cruise assembly. Cost, $700

Exactly...it's coming home this week!
Now my original non AC cab is in great condition, one dime size hole in 1 rear section of the drivers side corner. otherwise super solid!
Rockers good, corners good, drivers floor repaires, pass floor att solid original.
Will be selling that cab.

You'll need one from an '88-'91 truck unless it's 4x4.

Ranger80, My truck is a 4x4 so its just a matter of finding a good priced one and swapping the two out. I don't think it's possible to live in the Midwest without having a 4x4 truck lol

I think Ranger80 is pointing out that a 2wd ZF5 '92 & up will not have a speedo cable drive.
4X4's have it coming off the transfer case.

The only issue real with the smallblock ZF is, even though the tranny is a direct bolt-up to both the engine and T-case, the rear shaft needs to be shortened 2" and the front lengthened 2". The floor pan and the 4x4 shifter are slightly shifted back, may mess with your carpet.

Hey do any of you know what tranny fluid to put into the 4spd I currently have in the truck? I'm trying to do research on it but its a little more difficult when I can't look at the tranny until later

Regular 90 weight gear oil is all you need.
multi weight is fine too.
just make sure it smells awful.

The 5 speeds use ATF, just so you know. Once you get ahold of one, don't ever ever EVER use anything but ATF. Bad juju if you use anything else.
