anyone who can help me out would be appreciated. i just bought a 57 ranchero, which looks to have some aftermarket upgrades. at the moment the engine is seized, trying to free it, but what i need to know is what kind of engine it is. the only ID i can find is on the right side above the alternator: 9k22. it looks like something has been scatched out above that. it has a four barrel holley carb, sitting on top of an intake with 5751087A as it's ID #. the crank ID is C1AE which i'm guessing is 292. and the head ID is DIF 575 2143 3. can anyone put this puzzle together for me?
yes, i'm stumped. another bit of information that may help. is the that the valve covers have 5 bolts. i read somwhere, that it could be at least a 332. is there anything to back that up?
bum, My recall is 58 for the introduction of the FE and in the Edsel. In over 40 years several engines could have been changed in & out of the engine bay. The Y block should have a crossover exhaust pipe that comes across in front of the engine. The FE's sparkplugs all look like this on each side \\//
Hey Guys! Here's a list of engines for 61' and 69' The 69' is based on Dennis' hunch about the date.(the date code)
The 1961 is based on the date for the crank code. Hope this helps a bit...
