first build 1969 f100

Hello all, I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself to the group.

I am just starting on a project truck, it is a 1969 f100 long bed with three on the tree and a bad 240 motor.
additionally I have a 1976 f100 short bed that is a donor truck, it has a 390 with an automatic tranny, front disc brakes and a couple of other good parts.
this is my first build but thanks to this forum I already have the front clip off the 1976 (I call her pig, because she is donating her heart to another).
the plan for the 1969 truck will be a "make her go and make her stop" show the patina type of build with no air, no power steering shop truck kinda ride.
suggestions and advice will be appreciated.
thank you all and have a good one

Ron Welcome to and the Bumpside Forum.

Everything in the 76 should bolt right up to the 69. I rebuilt my engine and tranny before I installed them in my 66, swapped the complete I-beam set along with steering gear & column. I love the upgrades that the 76 provides.

I was just decoding the vin to see if they could be merged. my dentside is an automatic and my bumpside is 3 on the tree, will that be a problem?

Ron the chassis, engine bay area, floor pans are pretty bolt hole swap from the front bumper to the rear cab mount from 65-79. In 73 The rails and rear track was widened to match the wider track of the front wheels created with the Twin I-beams. Also 4 in. was added to the rear of the cab behind the rear mounts. Power steering was switched from a Bendix to Saginaw and the connect point moved 2 1/3 in. towards the firewall, making column and gear a set, requiring them to be run as a pair.

Your donor should have most of the upgrades that many here use in their older trucks. Unfortunately the FE is a powerful engine, it is not economical and no low cost OD tranny is available.

Hope you have fun getting started, and ask if you have a question, we are here to help.

so far on the 76 donor (pig) I have pulled the hood w/ hinges, the radiator w/shroud and fan assembly, the front clip, the bad a/c compressor, power steering pump, alternator/w mounting bracket and some various and assorted pulley's and brackets to add to the parts pile.

now I am in the process of removing the front suspension/disc brakes as a whole unit. are there and tips or suggestions for this process.

I have sprayed some break free on the nuts and bolts that needed it (all of em) and am giving that some time. thanks all

The easiest way is to use the "insert image" icon on the 2nd row of message tool bar. It's to the left of the bubble quote icon.

The second way is to subscribe to a photo hosting site like Photobucket or TinyPic and copying/pasting the "IMG" tagged URL into your message.

Ron, I pulled the set from my 66, pulled the 76 up along side, dropped that set slid the complete I-beam set over and bolted it up to the 66. Takes some big bars to work it loose but it can be done that way. The front end will remained aligned if it was correct to start with.

If it were me, I'd overhaul the 240 and keep the old girl bone stock. Ditch the "pig"

V8 swaps have been done, but you never see a built up six. I would also overhaul the 240. That's what I'm doing to my 300. Probably going a little overkill on the fuel system, but hey - it's different.

the original 240 engine is nothing but the block, it was cheaper to buy a whole donor and get the suspension, tranny and rear end plus other parts off of her than buy everything that was missing from the 240 motor.

and I would still have the original for down the road.

If you weren't in Texas I'd take that block as a spare.
