I have a problem with surging at idel. I have a F150 5.0 L. I have pulled the KORE code it is 172 Running lean bank 1. witch translate to ( These codes usually do not indicate a problem with the O2 sensor. Rather, the O2 sensor is correcting rich due to an overly lean air/fuel ratio. Check Base Engine Idle, EGR, Fuel System and Air Induction System.) Dose any one have a faster answer or soluation.
For those who have been reading this threed I have found some of my own answers and plan to try them out here is what I found. I had pulled the koer code and got 172 the ford-mustang site provided this info.
The 0² sensor reading lean is probably caused by a malfunction in the fuel system, possibly a plugged fuel injector or a weak fuel pump.
Well I found what the problem was and fixed the dam thing. I have a major vac leak in my EGR this gave a false indication to the O2 sensor thus the 172 code. I also found that this casued a crak in right (pasagenger side) exhust manafold. the cobanation casued a strange thing to hapen to the CPU it will constantly reset. the effect is that when starting the truck cold it works fine a little rough. When it warms up it will start surging do to fact the CPU is confused. I have replaced the EGR and my right exhust manfold. I hope this helps others with the same problem.
This has been an expensive lesson on the effects procrastination. I discovered that the right side exhaust manifold and the flange of the tail pipe had a leak. I remembered about three moths ago finding a leak on the right side and figured I would get to it later when I had time to fix the problem. I replaced the bad donut and decided to ask some of my more experienced friends who get paid to repair cars if this leak was the cause of all the problems. I found out from these guys the failure of the EGR valve and EGR sensor was do to that small leak and I could have avoided the whole experience by spending $16.79 and replacing the donut and about two hours of my precious time.
