Well, I bit the bullet today and decided to replace the ol' '89 that's been doing my dirty work for me for the past 14 years. She's served me well, and except for a few minor things has never let me down. But last night I saw a truck on the local CL that I couldn't pass up. Newer, with more doors. And admittedly, better looking. The ol' gal has 298k on her. Replaced the motor twice - once shortly after buying her at about 90k and then again at about 250k. AOD never failed. Rear end developed some play in the pinion bearing, but was always there. Steering always sucked. And there was always a vibration at about 70 mph. It's funny how nostalgia starts to look a little less glamorous when you take away the shiny parts. And this truck definitely has few shiny parts left.
Anyway, I'll be starting a thread over in the '97-'03 forum, partly to say hi to those folks over there. Partly because the reason for the low, low price of the new truck is that it has some issues of its own. Still, at a little over a grand, for running, mostly straight, '00 f150, I think I can put a lot of money into it before it hurts me.
