The stock down pipe is really small like 2 1/2". Just buy a mbrp 4" turboback. It had a 3 1/2" down pipe due to size constraints. But it's the best bang for your buck imo.

I like a good sounding engine and exhaust. But IMO not running a muffler is a little juvenile and should be left for the racetrack. It's too loud and annoying and it just isnt necessary to make all that noise for the sake of making people look at you.
There wont be any reduction in EGTs running no muffler vs a straight through muffler.
I know some of you are throwing your hands up and want to yell but that is only my opinion.

You're basically just saying it's for kids that want to be loud for looks, some are a bit older than that maturity group.

Straight pipe kit is cheaper than a muffler kit for one, sometimes by almost 75$.
My 6.0 is straight piped and i couldn't turn heads if i tried, everything else around me is louder.. like gasser v8s straight or any straight cummins/duramax

03 modified turbo w/ Magnaflow 3.5" downpipe to 4" straight pipe since 2006 and wouldn't have it any other way. Granny will talk to ya when she needs to.

I have a 05 that is straight piped and a 03 that is stock. I have an exhaust kit ordered for the 03. Sounds neat, if you don't like it, oh well.

My Mustang with 2 mufflers is a hell of a lot louder than my 6.0 with no muffler

A 6.0 with a straight pipe is not any louder than a stock dump truck. Your turbo is the muffler, it's not like running a straight pipe on a gas engine. Believe it or not the local cops complimented me on how mine sounds! We spent the next 15 minutes talking about trucks and programmers...

The straight pipe on my 04 is why I bought it. I showed up to the dealer in a Chevy hat looking for a Duramax. Personally I think the sound an early 6.0 makes is one of the best engine sounds ever.

I never had my truck without a straight pipe but it was getting 16-17mpg driving like I stole it.

In the cab with the stereo at a medium volume, you can hardly tell the engine is running.

No, that is not what I'm saying. I said what I said. When I bought my truck it was straight piped. It was fine on the inside, but when I heard the wife driving it and I was outside of the truck I realized how loud it really is to people who aren't in the cab. Yes, I'm aware other people have cars and trucks that are louder. Call me crazy, I have some respect for the environment that other people are in and I don't feel like it is necessary to remove a muffler and contribute to the noise. There's a happy medium somewhere. Do what you feel like you need to do, I'm merely doing what I feel is the right thing to do; there's no more or no less to that statement.

Did anyone complain about your exhaust? I doubt it. It's personal preference and i understand you may not like it but that's all yours is.

Noise from your 6.0 would have no ill effect on the environment either

You mean, to people standing by the road? Those people should expect to hear noises. Same thing happens when a dump truck drives by. Roads are meant to be noisy places. In fact, the new electric cars are killing blind people because they can't hear them....

Well after some advice from Mister CMK, my 6.0 is now straight piped and sounds awesome!

Initially it sounded obnoxious, but knowing the 6.0 as I do, it needed some time to adjust. Mashed it a few times before I took it on the freeway. Once I started getting closer to home the 6.0 made it's calculations, adjusted, and sounds more civil with a much better exhaust note.

I filled up right after so I'll reply with my findings after this tank.

Wish I would've done this sooner

Seriously, is there another motor that sounds better? That sound is easily worth 200hp to me....

With the 6.0 you can still be relatively quiet if you are driving through a neighborhood. It doesn't start screaming until over 2000 RPM, under that, it isn't really a lot louder than stock. My buddy has a truck with a cummins and 5" exhaust but some kind of aftermarket muffler...it is louder than my straight pipe at low RPM.
