got me my 2nd 71 ford truck but got me one major issue. it dose not like to go into park, it feels like the linkage is close to right but to put in park i have to make sure it engages into reverse first an leave it for a sec. then i can try for park an to make sure i feel it engaged by the truck settling, if not it will be a rolly-polly. I am used to the block on the string so i can block the tires with out an effort. this thing dose have a shift kit

Adjust the linkage in neutral. Block the wheels. Loosen the linkage slider bolt, crawl under and manually put the trans in neutral. Go inside and move the selector into the center of neutral. Hold it there while a friend tightens the linkage slider bolt. Should have full selector range.

Since you got the truck from me here is what I suggest. When you stop in drive pull the gear shift toward you, push it all the way up, then push it forward. That use to work just fine for me. Otherwise adjust the gear shift linkage slightly downward. Know what I mean...put it in park, disconnect the linkage, click heat selectector lever on the tranny up a couple clicks then reconnect the selector rod. Let me know how that works for you mouse?
i did what bobby said and it got it to feel more correct going throw gears, just that the rod will have to be shortened to go in park with out force. it is hitting the booster when adjusted for natural to be correct

Ok, glad it's better...ten years ago I had trouble getting it absolutely perfect starting from the neutral position...but that's the correct way to do it.
Do all that then adjust your parking brake. Don't let the truck weight rest on the parking pawl in a C6. Make sure it's never slammed into park if the truck is moving at all. (you knew that)
cab somehow got solid mount to frame made sometime in the past and the cab mount not correctly repaired. will deal with that at a later time, something like this hurst z-gate that might still be at yard or something similar would be nice to have
Don't use park to hold the truck, that's what kills the shift collar on the column. Use the parking brake, and use park as a safety.
These trucks also don't have a spring loaded parking pawl, it's a direct connection to the linkage, so the pawl and ring need to be lined up for it to actually go into park. Newer vehicles are spring loaded so if you put it in park when it's not aligned, the pawl will be held against the ring until the notch is aligned and it can actually drop into park.
I think your problem is in the shift collar that FordSix mentioned. It is prolly cracking on the inside. So now it isn't moving the shift linkage all the way. It's flexing a tad rather than always moving the linkage. The shift collar is the flange /housing that the shift lever is connected too. So if you remove the steering wheel and turn signal switch I think you will see the crack. Just remove the T/S switch far enough to be able to swing it to a side to get it out of sight's way. You don't have to remove it completely.
ihave problems with my park also. how do they work mine has an aftermarket floor shift that never worked right,i couldn't fell the detents just guess at it. the other day went to shift and the shifter would not move now the park doesn't move can you replace the internal linckage without tearing the tranny apart something is bent and it was a used tranny wich doesn't help.
