Clock codes on start up?

Clock codes on start up?
Upon start up my clock will briefly flash a number a couple numbers before going to the time. What's odd is that these numbers are changing. There is one number in the hour place (lately it has been 4) and one in the minute (gone from 6 up to 9)
Can anyone tell me what they mean or if I should be concerned about them? Clock works fine after they flash for a brief second. I've been trying to watch more closely so see if I can see a pattern.

These aren't any sort of secret decoder-ring codes it's giving you, it's a defective clock. I'd ignore it if it continues to work afterwards but I have to wonder for how long it will remain that way...

I can see where that makes sense. I'll have to check tomorrow to see if it goes up one. Any idea on how to set it correctly if it is a date?
