I was driving my 92 Explorer on the highway when all of a sudden it died. No sputtering or anything, just dead. It turns over but it's not getting a spark. Any suggestions on what it could be would be appreciated? Thanks.
Just an idea after having a 92 Ford Ranger for awhile, had the same kind of thing happen and it was a bad connection on the fuel pump shut off switch, in that it sat right under the passenger side of the dash, replaced the switch and that fixed it. Also any chance it's the timing belt/chain? Had a Blazer a few years ago that just stopped running on the highway and it turned out the timing chain was so worn down it couldn't grab enough to keep it running, however at that time we were out of state and looking at it on the side of the road everything appeared fine, just no spark getting through.
How are your plugs and wires? That's an inexpensive enough repair and it's easy enough that you might want to do it anyway.
I have a 92 Exp. Sport and have done this, the battery and the starter to the electrical system.
Also, if you've got over 100,000, be sure to check the trans fluid. My entire trans system went straight to hell because (according to the dealer) the trans can leak fluid easily which will cause it to overheat and burn out. Mine is a 5speed. Anyway, I had to have almost the entire system replaced (not cheap).
You have to have air, fuel and spark to run. I'm guessing you lost "spark" There is an ignition control module located in front of the battery on raditor support. Could be a bad coil pack but they usually go bad one side at a time, in which case it would run....just on three cylinders..............best of luck
