Leak - Wet Carpet

I have a persistent leak that causes the front passenger carpet to get wet after a heavy rain. Truck went to the dealer under warranty and they resealed the third brake light. Not sure if it ever fixed the problem, but I probably didn't check it as often as I should have after the repair. We've had a few good rain storms and the carpet is getting pretty wet. Since the truck is now out of warranty (2011 F150) I made a new gasket for the third brake light. I think it's pretty well sealed, so I'm thinking the leak is coming from somewhere else. Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know where your leak is coming from, but if you have been chasing the same problem without success while still under warranty, it shouldn't matter if the warranty period has expired. Good luck

Wet carpet up front means leak up front. Brake light is in back.

If carpet gets noticeably wet then you have a pretty large leak. This is good because it will be easy to find. Put a water hose on the front windshield and start pulling back carpet and take apart the dash until you find the source. I would completely remove the carpet to dry it out once and for all.

Does it have a moonroof? If it does, make sure there are no blocked drain hoses. Check around sat. radio antenna on the front of the roof too. Water could be traveling. A water test should narrow it down. (I would assume the dealer has been doing that).

I've tried to find the leak using a hose, but haven't had any luck. No moon roof. I'm planning to go back to the dealer, but I was hoping to have a better idea of where the water is coming from before I talk to them.

Be sure to let us know how things go at the dealership, Joe Finn. I'll hang around this thread to keep an eye on your updates.

Mine did the same thing. It was the drain for the A/C causing the problem. I had to silicone around the drain pipe so the water wouldn't track back through the firewall. My carpet used to get soaked. All fixed now after I resealed it. The dealer tried with no success. You have to take the passenger side front tire off to do it. Very easy actually. There is a TSB on it.

Thanks Skoiv. Was it rain water getting in through the drain, or was it drain water from the A/C?

A/C drain water. Remember.. That compressor runs when on defrost too, not just A/C

Update. Finally got it to the dealer. It's the third brake light that was leaking (again). Unfortunately it wasn't covered under warranty.

Did they explain how water from back of truck gets the passenger only front carpet wet?? the rear head liner and under rear seat should be wet . Think you still have a leak some leaked by the fuse panel behind passenger kick panel may want to check it out if carpet still gets wet.

Not exactly sure how the water is getting up front. I'm keeping an eye on things to see what happens.

I can almost guarantee that the 3rd brake light is NOT getting your carpet wet in the front passenger foot area. That defeats the laws of physics and makes no sense. Do the A/C drain fix yourself. It's easy.
