Definitely going to be a F350 Crew Cab 4X4 SRW with under 100k on the odometer. I want good honest advice, opinions, feedback about what year and motor to get. Should I get a 2008-2010 with the 6.4? Or spend a few more bucks and get a 2011 to about a 2013 with the 6.7? Would like to stay under 30 grand but would go to the mid to upper 30’s for a 2011 or newer. I do plan on doing the deletes/ bulletproofing and having it tuned. Which motor/trans combination is the best, most powerful, durable, and reliable with those mods?

I would stay away from the 2011 6.7's unless you know for sure the engine is good. Ford had some exhaust valve problems on the earlier 6.7's that would destroy the engine. The 2012 up are good. The 6.4 is a good engine if the DPF is deleted and the ECM is programmed. They aren't perfect, but they have good durability and awesome power when deleted. They also can get decent fuel mileage deleted and programmed. There a lot of 6.4's on the market for around 30K and under with low miles. But they aren't inexpensive to repair if you do have problems. You will just have to check each truck you consider to make sure it's good before buying.

Same boat

My daughter just flipped my 6.0. So totaled and looking. On the 2011 6.7's at what mileage range would you think all the exhaust valve problems would have already shown up and been fixed? I am torn between the 2 engines as well. On same note, if 6.0 had head gaskets/studs/deletes, how would you compare it to 6.4 with EGR delete?

The 6.4 tuned is a good engine, just pay attention to draining the fuel and adding some fuel additive to the fuel. It will make more power than you would ever need and as long as don't tow with added HP you shouldn't have to worry about head gaskets. The high pressure pump is the only thing you don't want to fail, but then again that's the same as the 6.7.
If you go hog wild and put good head bolts on horsepower on the 6.4 cant hardly be matched.

I enjoyed my 6.4. Mine was a job 3 2008. (born march 2008).

6.4 is an excellent hwy/towing motor. It likes to work.

It does not like excessive idling and low speed/city stop and go driving.

Read the tech folder and download the bible. Although there have been a few changes it will bring a lot of things into focus on this motor and its requirements.

Remember anything common rail high pressure fuel system diesel 2008 to present will require more frequent fuel filter changes and does not like water at all.

bubba is right again.... 6.4 is a monster ...deleted it is unmatched...even by 6.7's which I have beat up on a few intake/delete/exhaust/programmer of your choice you could be right around 600hp...lot more torque fuel mileage ehhhhh million threads on that believe what you want At least in florida 11's and up are 40k and up.. (cc 6.7 4wd lariat) reasonable mileage.. I bought my 2008 last year for 32 grand with a little over 50k miles... I've been more then happy with this truck! All trucks have there own downfalls...I think the majority of the issues are lack of maintenance which no 1 will run to a forum and say yeah I f'd my truck up because I drove it hard and put it up wet........... hopefully this helps some!

I tow a 2.5T trailer daily and my little GMC SB Reg Cab is about to find a new home. I will most likely fly to texas to purchase my truck based on pricing that I have seen. Comparable trucks are $3-5k less in price, in Texas vs Virginia.

The only way to know on 6.7 exhaust valve problems would be to get an OASIS report. Ford replaced engines under warranty when the valve got gobbled up. That would show up. The 6.4 engine is a really good engine once deleted. Navistar fixed all the shortcomings of the 6.0 with overkill when the 6.4 Powerstroke and MaxForce 7 engine was introduced.

Get a 6.7! You won't regret it. Strokin, If I ever come to Florida, we should race. The only thing I don't have on my rig is the cold air intake, but by time I get back to the East Coast, I should!

Lol... Tofan you have 2 be realistic... you would have 2 raise your truck 6" and add 37's and 20 inch wheels for it to be a fair race.. I speak of racing other lifted trucks...whether it be 6.0's which are slow...7.3 guys who still think they broke the mold...or the 6.7 guys who know that 6.4's will bust that ***.. all that being said I know my truck gets down... I would still race you... honestly are you sitting right at 600hp to the wheels...............and over 1000lbs of torque???? If not don't waste the trip 2 the sunshine state...be a waste of diesel for somebody lol! It's all in good fun.. I've seen some fast 6.7's but by far more 6.4's there just monsters!

Oh, I forgot, I drive my age, so we can only race a 1/16 of a mile.

Stock vs stock, the 6.4 is a terd. Tuned, my 6.4 will handle most very well. Including mustangs, camaros and rice burners. I blew out a corvette once but it was because he misjudged me. I've pulled 18 wheelers and transport busses out of the mud.

Stock, the 6.7 is quite a beast and sounds extremely good tuned with a good exhaust.

There's a tuned 6.7 on 54's with a 18" lift that thinks he's bad *** around here and we cross paths frequently. He always instigates me and I of course leave him in a cloud of under-combusted diesel.
