I am instaling the new vent windows and am stumped. What type of adhesive is used to bond the glass to the (glass setting tape)? As the tape alone will not hold the glass by it's self. could I use Butel,or Weatherstriping Adhesive,or Silicone? Thanks Jim VA.
Bob; Thanks I thought I would use that also, just in case they have to come apart at a later date. By the way, who did your carpet? it looks like a pro job. or did you do it yourself? I am at that stage now . Thanks Jim VA.
Jim, thanks but no pro job, but I'm very happy with it. I first bought a carpet kit for about $225.00 Layed it out and said " that's it" , so I called them up and returned it with no problem
So I then started looking in carpet stores and found what you see, 8 x 14 feet for $85. It's a nylon made for outdoors. Screwed up a few times but I had plenty to work with. My son and I tryed to install the stock headliner, but coners ended up with creases so I cut them out and put the carpet in the coners also. Looks OK to me. Just take your time on doing your carpet and should be fine. Bob
Bob: You're bumming me out. I too am about to put the vent windows back in. Vintage Ford sold me a packet of the tape and told me that was all I needed. No adhesive necessary. That was my plan until now. Did you try the tape yet? Too loose? Let me know, John in Sacramento
I have not replaced the vents yet on mine but the side door windows went in well with just silicone. just be sure to keep them dry until everything sets up.
I am also expecting my vent windows any day now. Do you need the silicon? Or is it ok with just the tape??
Also traderBob where are the picts of your carpet??? I'd love to see how it turned out??? Did you cut area's for the battary door and the brakes???

Hey Jim, I put the new glass back in my vent frames last night. I put a thin coating of black silicone on the inside edge of the glass. I am told that this will help prevent the air from creaping in and ruining the windows. After the silicone, I installed the window tape from Vintage. After pushing the galss into the frame, I trimmed off the excess. It looks perfect and the fit is very snug. Good Luck, John
Use the same thing that windshield repair shops use now - DOW windshield/window adhesive. It's black, gooey, very messy, but extremely pliable, won't leak, etc. I went to the local shop and they sold me one for a few bucks (you may not be able to buy it retail, though I'm not sure).
