400 rpm range
. Most stock cranks are brittle cast iron... I think the one in a 400 is cast nodular iron, which is stronger and more flexible... aftermarket cranks, which I don't think are readily available for a 351M or Ford 400, are forged from 1053 steel or 4340 tool steel...
. Yes, stock Ford rods and cranks seem to be decent pieces... my 351W in my boat is built up to 425 HP with stock rods, bolts, and crank... I've held it WOT and over 5,000 RPMs for several minutes at a time, something you can do on open water, and so far it stays together...
