The cap is holding pressure. Unless it has an evaporative emissions setup, the cap needs vented. Either buy a vented cap or drill a very small hole in the cap you have.
Even the vented cap will hold some pressure (or vacuum) before it releases so you might wind up doing both like I did. A new vented cap with a small hole added.
