Speaker size

Hey ya'll,

I thinking about upgrading my sound system in my truck. And I'm not sure what size speakers I have there are two behind the seat and two in the door. Behind the seat look like 6x9's but I could be wrong and the one in front look like 5ish not sure. Can anyone confirm the size of the speakers and has anyone put larger speakers in these places.

Thanks,
Evs

6 1/2 in front and 6x8's in the rear. Check out www.crutchfield.com to make sure what will fit.

6x9's will not fit the rear. It has to be 6x8s because of the way the speaker mounts. At least from my experience this is true. 6.5s go in the doors.

Yeah, 6x8's will work in the rear. In fact, it'll be a perfect fit. As for the front, I thought they were 6.25's...

6 1/2's in the front and 6x8 or 5x7 in the rear will fit too. i promise
ijust recently "upgraded" mine and have done only one side(drivers) i have yet to finish because i cant decide if i like the sound. the factory speakers seem to sound better
they seem to be paper cones but they also seem to be a full range speaker. the back says premium speaker whatever that meant in 94. i think i got a high range only speaker or something. i dont know(they were open box. . . without a box) for sure.

i just wanted the cheapest alternative but now ive got the "system" bug lol

so im saving up to do it all right. sub or two, big enough amp . . capacitor or two . .. high end tweeters. . the works or at least close to it. still want to try and remain simple but done right

so im gonna save up and buy the stuff a piece at a time. maybe infinity reference or jbl or harman kardon(sp?) i figure thats good enough . . . i dont need 300 bucks a pop speakers and 1500 dollar amps

im thinking 4 corners of infinity reference speakers and one or two jbl subs and 2 or 4 harman kardon tweeters. two in the front and two in the back or maybe 4 in the front. who knows

sorry for rambling on.. . so yeah 6x8's or 5x7's will fit in the back. i have a 5x7 sitting there now.

i plan on doing it all myself
where the most expensive thing i foresee will be the amp.man those things are expensive . . . i figure about 150 to 200 on that. . . about another 200 on the infinity reference speakers(for four) and like 50-75 bucks for a good sub. lets see thats about 400 so far on the low end. . . then about 100 bucks on a regular cd mp3 deck and the misc stuff like the wire and fuses or whatever ill need. and wood for making up a box of some sort for the sub and maybe some sound deadening material and carpeting for the box. . . . geez. . . im right up there with your gf at around like 5-600 bucks. . . geez. . . oh well. hey, where did your gf get her system done? lol

gotta get a ps pump, tires, and an alignment first though lol

Quality oem speakers are sometimes the best full rage speakers out there for the money. A very good speaker to replace them with is something like an mb quart component set.

Yes, they are a great brand, but they are also pricey.

I suggest Infinity speakers for great full range sound replacements at a reasonable price

Yeah they're definitely 6x8's in the rears on my 94. I'm also in the process of upgrading. I just purchased a pair of 6 1/2 Image Dynamics coaxials for the front. I installed them and IMO they sound great. Since Image Dynamics doesn't make 6x8 or 5x7 coaxials, I went ahead and ordered another pair of 6 1/2's for the rear. Figure I'll just fabricate some kind of adaptor for it or something. Scosche.com has a bunch of adaptors to choose from also so I might check later if they have the adaptor I need. I'm also looking hard at a couple of 8" bazookas for behind the seat in my regular cab. I like bazookas because I can just throw them behind the seat since space, or lack of space is an issue. They also come with a built in amp or not if you so choose. Plus, at 101db/watt, they are the most efficient subs out there and you dont have to spend a lot of money for a big amp. Don't really wanna spend too much on an upgrade. Just need something a little better than pure stock.

No wonder my stuff didn't work right. I didn't realize they changed the size of the speakers in the doors from my 89 to my 94. The 89 took 5.25's...the 94 I had to drill 2 new holes to mount the 5.25's. My bad! Haven't gotten around to replacing the rear yet, I need to. I also need to get an amp to power the 10" bazooka tube sub I was just given. fits about right behind my seat.

Hey flareside94,

Is that a reg cab you got? I got my seat pushed all the way back and wondering if a 10" will fit back there? Sure would love to have the 10s.
