I have been posting on the big bronco form an still looking for more help. I have a ford 302 with about 9000 miles on the engine with in the last 400 it been lacking power an back fires I have repaired all the koer codes an made repaired the fuel pressure stays at 35 an the timing is set at 10btdc. Thing I have done replace the Elc control module replace coil. Now this tis the problem start the truck an drive for about ten miles no problem slow down an start to go again no power an back fires while the engine is still backfire I really fast put it in natural an shut the motor off an restart but I do it so fast the motor has no time to shut off an back to running fine. So what does this mean well I can rule out bad valve an bad fuel pump or timing or jump chain or lifter rocker or push rod. What do I do now
So it is one backfire when you apply throttle, or it is a series of "popping"?
Your description of the restart procedure your using sounds like you may have a faulty ignition system component and turning the key on-off is temporarily fixing the problem (like ignition switch is losing contact until you mess with key).
