Well I have been building a 75 F-100. I swapped the I-Six for a 351W with a Holley 4bbl. It had a 3 on the tree and I really wanted to get away from the manual drive, especially since my daily driver is a standard drive, so i bought an AOD that had came out of a late '80's Mustang. Well I haven't got to drive it yet because i was having trouble adjusting the TV cable. I have been told there is a bracket that goes on the carb to help with the adjustment but have been unable to find one. Do I really need it or can I just adjust it without the bracket? Its the stock cable with the block type adjuster on the end. Another question, can I use the mustang flywheel or do I have to get a new one for the 351?
AOD's CAN BE A MILE OFF ON TV CABLE ADJUSTMENT AND STILL KIND OF FEEL GOOD, BUT THE TRANS WON'T LAST. dON'T CHEAT ON THIS ONE. GET A GAUGE ON LINE AND AT AN IDLE YOU'LL USUALLY SEE ABOUT ZERO....AND AS SOON AS YOU START BREATHING ON THE GAS PEDAL YOU'LL SEE THE PRESSURE START TO RISE. tHE BOOK DOES IT A LITTLE DIFFERENT BUT YOU'LL BE SAFE OR IN THE BALL PARK AND THEN YOU CAN FUDGE IT A LITTLE
yeah!!! it will run out alot faster!!!! my AOD lived through 2 blocks becasue i was too loose!! it didnt even feal like it was doing anything that wrong at first untill i just got it out of my neighbore hood, noticed somthn was not right so turned back around. by the time i made it to my driveway, i was getting no forward drive whatsoever! learn from my exsperience. it still leaves me hitting myself. how often do you make mistakes with your truck that costs you a 1000$+?
Yea, sorry guys I forgot recomend start using a high presure setting and then going down until get good shift. I there is a presure gauge from 0 to 30 psi, then do this:
1° Install pressure gauge at TV pressure port. Engine off.
2° Start engine, apply service brake, put AOD in Neutral pos.
(Be sure AC is off, engine is at normal Temp, DON'T PRESS GAS PEDALL WHILE GAUGE IS INSTALLED OR WILL BE BLOW OUT)
3° Adjust TV cable until gauge reads 0.5 to 1.5 psi at idle.
4° If AOD is used on trucks I recomend set it to 2 to 4 psi TV pressure. This will get cluch packs extended life loosing a bit confort.
5° Turn off engine, remove pressure gauge.
6° Be sure carb can get WOT pos. (Engine off)
