Well it has been a while since i have had a chance to work on a 4.9 sold my 96 150 about 5 years ago. Curently I am helping a guy i work with repair his 89 f-150. As best as we can tell About a 4" long piece of the cam sheared off and ejected itself out the passenger side of the block taking a connecting rod with it.
The piece of the Cam was found laying on the lower crossmember. We managed to sourced a used motor from a 89 Econoline. Original plan was to just do a quick tear down with new seals and gaskets. After tear down we had a slight change of plans didnt like some of what we found in the motor so block is currently out at the machine shop getting 30 over Already have new seals bearing and gaskets sitting on the work bench along with a new Cam. So question is what am I forgetting? Like I said it has been a while since I rebuilt my last 4.9.
